Reconciliation / Confession
God’s mercy and forgiveness through repentance and absolution.
What is Reconciliation?
"On the evening of that day, the first day of the week," Jesus showed himself to his apostles. "He breathed on them, and said to them: 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained"' (Jn 20:19, 22-23).
Reconciliation, also known as Confession or Penance, is the sacrament through which we receive God’s mercy and forgiveness for our sins.
Through the priest’s absolution, we are reconciled with God and the Church, restored in grace, and strengthened to continue living a Christian life.
Who can receive Reconciliation?
-
Baptized Catholics who have reached the age of reason.
-
Children preparing for First Holy Communion.
-
Adults seeking reconciliation with God and the Church.
-
In our parish, Religious Education for second-grade children focuses on preparation for First Confession, which is celebrated before First Holy Communion.
A traditional Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who is all good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve with the help of your grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen
